Highlighting Vision and It's Importance for Business

Honour Your Vision: The First Step to Building a Business That Feels Like Home

May 19, 20255 min read

You didn’t start your business just to keep yourself busy. You didn’t do it for someone else’s version of success, or because you love spreadsheets and juggling all the things (though shoutout to those of us who secretly do, spreadsheets that is).

You started it with a vision—maybe even just a whisper of one.

A vision of more freedom.
A vision of impact.
A vision of showing your kids what’s possible.
A vision of building something that feels like yours.

But somewhere along the way, that vision can get buried. Under the to-do lists. Under the pressure. Under the fear. Under what everyone else is doing on Instagram.

So today, let’s bring it back into the light. Because honouring your vision is the first, and most powerful, step in building a business that doesn’t just function, but fulfils.

Why Vision Comes First

Vision is not some fluffy dream board exercise. It’s the internal GPS of your business. Without it, you’re reacting, not leading. You’re building something, yes, but is it something that actually feels like you?

Honouring your vision is about giving yourself permission to:

  • Want what you actually want.

  • Build on your terms.

  • Say no to the wrong things so you can say yes to the right ones.

Without clarity on your vision, strategy doesn’t stick. Marketing gets muddy. Sales feel forced. And joy? It’s nowhere to be found.

What Does “Honouring Your Vision” Really Mean?

It’s not about having a five-year plan or a fancy mission statement (though those have their place). It’s about being deeply honest about what matters to you and building from that foundation.

Ask yourself:

  • What does success actually look like for me?

  • How do I want my business to feel?

  • What kind of life am I building this business to support?

It’s your vision. No one else’s. That means your version of success gets to be unique and honouring that is the boldest, most strategic move you can make.

My Own Vision Wake-Up Call

When I left my career after having my second daughter, it wasn’t just a logistical decision. It was a heart decision. I realised that going back to the job I loved meant sacrificing the life I wanted, and not just for me, but for my whole family.

The vision wasn’t clear straight away. At first, it was just: “I want to be present.” Then it grew: “I want to build something of my own.” Eventually, it sharpened: “I want to create a business that helps others find their joy, take bold action, and build businesses that feel like home.”

That’s what became The Joy Work Club. That’s what fuels The Joy Work Show. That’s why I do what I do.

But it started with a whisper, not a megaphone. It grew because I honoured it—even when it scared me. Especially when it scared me.

Three Signs You’re Not Honoring Your Vision

If any of these sound familiar, it might be time to revisit your vision:

  1. You’re constantly comparing your business to others. You’ve lost sight of your own goals because you’re busy chasing theirs.

  2. You’re stuck in busywork. You’re doing all the things but feel like you’re going nowhere.

  3. You feel resentful of your business. Instead of lighting you up, it’s wearing you down.

Sound familiar? It’s not failure. It’s feedback.

How to Reconnect With Your Vision

Here’s how to start honouring your vision again, even if it’s been a while since you heard it clearly:

1. Create Space

We cannot hear our inner voice when we’re drowning in noise. Step away from your screen. Go for a walk. Journal without a prompt. Let the quiet speak.

2. Ask Bigger Questions

Instead of “What should I post this week?” ask:

  • What do I want my business to stand for?

  • Who do I want to become through this work?

3. Audit Your Actions

Look at your calendar. Your offers. Your marketing. Ask: Is this aligned with the vision I’m trying to create or someone else’s?

Nothing shouts misalignment louder than a full calendar, and a business owner talking about how busy they are, with no space for those extra clients you are dreaming about.

4. Say the Dream Out Loud

Say it. Share it. Write it on a sticky note. Because the more you speak it, the more real it becomes.

5. Hold It Lightly, But Fiercely

Your vision will evolve, and that’s okay. The key is to keep holding space for it, even as it shifts.

You’re Allowed to Want More

One of the biggest blocks I see, especially with women in business, is the belief that we should be grateful for what we already have and not ask for more.

But here’s the truth: gratitude and ambition can coexist.

Wanting more doesn’t make you greedy. It makes you honest. And when you honor that truth? That’s when you start to build something truly joyful.

The Strategic Side of Vision

Let’s be clear: honouring your vision isn’t just mindset work—it’s strategic work.

When you know what you’re building towards, every decision becomes easier. It helps you:

  • Design offers that align with your goals

  • Choose the right marketing channels

  • Set boundaries with clients (and yourself)

  • Stay focused when the comparison trap kicks in

This is why Honour Your Vision is the very first pillar of the HEART framework. It’s the heartbeat. The anchor. The spark.

Ready to Get Clear?

If this post has got you thinking (or got you crying—been there!), then it’s time to take action.

You don’t need to map out your whole life. You just need to start listening.

And if you want support? The 21-Day Strategy Sprint is made for this. It’s designed to help you reconnect with your vision, build a plan around it, and make your business feel like yours again, without burning out or second-guessing.

Because you’re not here to build just any business. You’re here to build a business that feels like home.

Final Thought

You are not behind.
You are not too late.
You have not missed your chance.

Your vision is still here. Maybe buried. Maybe bruised. But it’s yours. And it’s worth honouring.

So go ahead. Speak it. Name it. Build around it.

Because joy is not the reward at the end. It’s the foundation you build from.
